GAME DAY RECAP: March 13, 2026

Delta Hockey Academy Black (2/OT) vs. Northern Alberta Xtreme (1) Female U18 Prep Div II Western Championships

Two programs with ambitions of winning the entirety of the Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championships clashed in their playoff opener, a game that largely belonged to the goaltenders. NAX’s Hannah Pope (3840) and Delta Black’s Eszter Schober (34/35) looked unbeatable in most of the game, but in the second, NAX broke through. Addison Cunningham’s goal helped NAX take a 1-0 lead in the third, with her team outshooting Delta Black 29-20. Delta, however. Took control in the third, outshooting NAX 14-4 and making good on their only powerplay of the game. Nevaeh Brankovich tied it with just over half of the third period to play, and while NAX held on in the third period, Ailee Cooper broke through for Delta in overtime, completing the comeback effort.

Edge School (0) vs. OHA Edmonton (8) Female U18 Prep Western Championships

OHA Edmonton are among the clearest favourites to win the U18 Prep Western Championships, which was obvious from the outset of their playoff opener against Edge School. Goals from Ryann Chimera (3G, 2A) and Avery Sam (2G, 3A) put OHAE up 2-0 through one, but the offence would explode in the second. The score went from 2-0 to 5-0 in barely over four minutes, with OHA Edmonton eventually finishing the second period up 8-0 through forty minutes. They’d let off from there, gliding to the finish in the 8-0 win. Edge School ended up with some chances in the third, but at every turn, OHAE’s Emma Skolney (28/28) was there to make the stop in her shutout win. In addition to Chimera and Sam’s five points apiece, Riley Cooper (1G, 4A) had five of her own with that trio combining for six of the eight OHAE goals.

Ontario Hockey Academy Mavericks (4) vs. Okanagan Hockey Ontario (6) East U18 Prep

The Ontario Hockey Academy Mavericks really came that close. Okanagan Hockey Ontario have been riding a hot hand, but the Mavericks continuously and consistently fought back hard enough to stay in the game. Easton Choffe (2G, 3A), Adam Clark (2G, 2A), and Kenton Wong all scored in the first period, but each time, had the Mavericks respond with goals of their own. Clark and Tom Boudet (1G, 4A) would finally give OHO some breathing room in the second, and while the Mavericks’ third-period effort was admirable, they couldn’t come all the way back. Choffe scored his second of the game in the third to give OHO some insurance in the 6-4 win.

CIH Academy (16) vs. King Heights Academy (1) East U18 Prep

Sorry, CIH Academy, if you wanted to read an eloquent and detailed description of your win. That’s because the score speaks for itself. A handful of CIH Academy players posted ridiculous stat lines in the win, with Ricky Deslauriers’ five goals and four assists the most prominent. In addition to Deslauriers, Andrei Chumakov (5G, 1A) scored five goals of his own with Tucker Clare (2G, 5A) grabbing seven points from the back end.

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6/SO) vs. Okanagan Hockey Academy (5) U15 Prep Div II Western Championships Semi-Final

Tomorrow’s U15 Prep Div II Western Championships Final could only feature one of the two deserving teams who clashed in the first semi-final on Friday. At a couple different points today, it looked like the Okanagan Hockey Academy had at least one foot in the Final, but RINK Kelowna’s fight never faltered. The red-hot Cohen Short (2G) opened the scoring in a first period that saw OHA take a 2-0 lead, but in the second, the first significant RHAK pushback broke through. OHA scored a third, but Cash Hunter, Jaxon Lodge (1G, 1A), and Aksel Smith scored for RHAK to level things at three. Despite their push, they couldn’t snatch the lead, and OHA would start the third by taking the lead. Short’s second of the game made it 5-3 with five and a half minutes left. RHAK would, again, fight their way back into it. Nixon McLean deflected home two shot, bringing his playoff total to seven goals, and extending RHAK’s tournament by forcing overtime. The game would go to the shootout, where RHAK’s first lead would finally be seized. With the last shot of the shootout, Barkeley Reid ended the game, winning it for RINK Kelowna and sending them to the Final.

Shawnigan Lake School (3) vs. Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (8) Female U18 Prep Div II Western Championships

Shawnigan Lake School are a significant threat to win the Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championships, a fact that became extremely prevalent in the second period. The score was knotted 2-2 through twenty minutes, but in the second, Shawnigan exploded for six goals, led by two of Leah Hill’s (3G, 2A) eventual hat-trick. Zoe Cramer (1G, 3A) added four points with Grace Cooper (1G, 2A), Eden Hamel (1G, 2A), and Tess McGee (2G, 1A) pitching in with three points apiece.

STAR Hockey Academy (4) vs. Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (8) U15 Prep Div II Western Championships Semi-Final

STAR Hockey Academy impressively held on for a massive chunk of their U15 Prep Division II Western Championships Semi-Final against a Pilot Mound Hockey Academy that has been incredibly impressive so far. STAR stayed in the game through two, going down 1-0 before tying the game, and then going down 4-1 before tying the game back at four. PMHA would take control and run away with the game in the third period, though, scoring the last four goals of the game to leave STAR too far behind for them to catch up. The red-hot Max Faulkner’s (3G) hat-trick led the way for the Buffaloes, with five points from Brock Vodden (2G, 3A) a massive contribution to the eventual 8-4 win.

Calgary International Hockey Academy (3) vs BWC Academy (1) U15 Prep Western Championships Semi-Final

Calgary International punched their ticket to the U15 Prep Division I championship game with a poised, playoff‑mature 3–1 win over previously undefeated BWC, flipping the script from their round‑robin meeting and outlasting the #8 seed in a tight, low‑event semifinal. BWC struck first when Logan Chang (1G) jumped on a loose puck midway through the opening frame, but CIHA answered less than three minutes later as Owen Light (2G) buried a clean finish off a Jase Morey (2A) setup to settle the nerves. From there, Calgary leaned into structure limiting BWC to just seven shots in the second before finally breaking through early in the final period when Jaret Otto (1G) snapped home the go‑ahead goal off another Morey feed. BWC pushed late, but Ty Tunke (30/31) stayed calm behind a CIHA group that suffocated the neutral zone, and Light sealed it with an empty‑net dagger in the dying seconds. After knocking out the #3 seed Yale and now ending BWC’s perfect run, Calgary heads to the final looking every bit like a team peaking at the right moment.

Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (1) vs North Shore Warriors (5) Female U18 Prep Div II Western Championships

North Shore looked every bit like a #1 seed in their playoff opener, rolling past OHA Black 5–1 in a Division II Western Championship game that tilted their way almost from the opening shift, a continuation of the gap these teams showed all season but amplified by postseason urgency. Calle Shanahan (2G, 1A) set the tone with a late first‑period strike and then delivered a back‑breaking buzzer‑beater at 19:59 of the second, a moment that turned a manageable 1–0 deficit into a steep climb for an OHA Black group entering the tournament on a 15‑game winless slide. The third period became the separation point: Castilla Rubin (1G) pushed the lead to three before Morgan Ghag (1G) briefly sparked life for OHA Black, only for North Shore to snuff it out immediately through Chloe Burgher (1G) and a late insurance marker from Alexa Roberts (1G). NSW’s top six dictated pace, their forecheck hemmed OHA Black in for long stretches, and their depth kept generating clean looks, forcing Ryann Faulkner (31/36) into another heavy‑volume night just to keep things respectable. At the other end, Haylie Hedges (19/20) was steady behind a defensive effort that limited second chances and controlled the slot.

Edge School (4) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) U15 Prep Western Championships Semi-Final

Edge delivered another upset, stunning #2‑seed Northern Alberta Xtreme 4–3 in a semifinal that flipped without warning, powered by a four‑goal eruption in a wild second period. NAX looked fully in control early, building a 3–0 lead through Jett Evans (1G), Carter Knogler (1G) and a power‑play strike from Liam Bordt (1G, 1A), all while outshooting Edge heavily and dictating every inch of pace. But the game detonated midway through the second when Luke Tschetter (2G) finally broke through, sparking a surge that Edge rode like a tidal wave. Lachlan Kisio (2G) tied it with back‑to‑back goals, including a power‑play marker, and Tschetter capped the comeback with 19 seconds left in the second frame, turning a 3–0 deficit into a 4–3 Edge lead in just under eleven minutes. From there, it was all about survival: Cohen Spencer (37/40) turned aside everything in a third period where Edge managed just six shots but defended with absolute desperation. In a bracket where Edge entered as a #6 seed with an 0‑2‑0‑0 round robin, they now advance to the championship game on the back of one of the most improbable semifinal swings.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (5) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (4)Female U18 Prep Western Championships

RINK Winnipeg opened their playoff run like a team unfazed by seeding, jumping on SAHA early and then surviving a chaotic third period to take a 5–4 win that immediately tightened the race in Pool A. Kendal Leader (1G) and Attica Sobering (2G) built a 2–0 cushion in the first, a start that held through a scoreless second before the game detonated into a nine‑goal final frame. SAHA stormed back with two quick strikes from Kamryn Reiber (1G) and Sara Murdoch (1G) to erase the deficit, only for RINK to flip the script shorthanded when Sydney Stibbard (1G, 2A) buried the go‑ahead goal, Sobering added another shorty four minutes later, and Camryn Thomas (1G) pushed the lead to three on the power play. SAHA refused to go quietly, clawing back late through Teagan Torgerson (1G) and Maria Facca (1G), but Mars McHenry (37/41) held firm under a 19‑shot barrage in the third to secure a win that puts RINK Winnipeg’s #5 seed on equal footing with the #4 seed SAHA after one wild night of playoff hockey.

Balmoral Hall School (2) vs Delta Hockey Academy Green (5) Female U18 Prep Western Championships

Delta Green looked every bit like a #1 seed easing into playoff form, shaking off a slow start and overwhelming #8‑seed Balmoral Hall with a four‑goal third period to take a 5–2 win in their Pool A opener. BHS actually struck first when Mya Rosenbaum (1G) buried a late‑period marker, but that early edge evaporated under Delta’s mounting shot volume, which climbed from steady pressure in the second to full‑tilt control in the third. Adie Schneider (1G) tied it on a power play late in the middle frame, and once the dam cracked, Delta flooded the game: Emma Biros (1G, 1A) and Payton Finnie (1G, 2A) scored 46 seconds apart to flip the script, Cameryn Shiels (1G, 1A) added insurance, and Gabriella Lee (1G, 1A) capped the surge as DHAG turned a tight playoff opener into a runaway. Kate Chuback (1G, 1A) pulled one back late for BHS, but Sasha Coutu (52/57) was the only thing keeping the scoreline respectable on a night where Delta’s depth, pace, and 57‑shot onslaught made a clear statement about the gap between the top and bottom seeds in the bracket.

Okanagan Hockey Academy (2) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6) Female U18 Prep Western Championships

Jillian McLaughlin (2G, 1A) would open the scoring late in the first period off a strong power move to the net, giving RHA Kelowna the go ahead lead. Kennedy Sisson (1G, 2A) would double the lead half way through the second, sparking a chain of another three unanswered goals in a span of less than five minutes. Leni Redden (1G, 1A) would bury one of these goals, batting one out of the air. Initially ruled no goal, the refs would correct the call and Redden’s tally would stand. That would go on to be the GWG as Marin Deadmarsh and Sayler Russell nabbed two in the third period for OHA. Captain Hayley McDonald (1G, 1A) would add some extra insurance in the third.
